bout to get really real

I can not stand when people use their upbringing as an excuse for their poor choices and actions. I didn’t grow up in a leave it to beaver home. My father is a too far gone alcoholic and I had to grow up fast, step up to the plate, and take care of my younger brothers while my mom was working and going to school so we could leave. Many of time I carried his drunk ass inside the house and made sure he didn’t burn the house down by passing out with a cigarette. And guess what, I’m not a product of my environment. I am a working/successful part of society. Just because you had a shitty child hood doesn’t give you an excuse to check out. You work hard against the hand that was dealt to you and you overcome. I just get sick of people saying “well they didn’t have a very good childhood” or “they weren’t brought up like you were” as an excuse for why someone sits at home gets zonked on drugs and does nothing productive all the live long day. Throw your pity part for one, because I’m not attending.

(side note: not trying to sound like I had the hardest child hood in the world, because I didn’t, not even close. I have always had one very great parent and now have two great parents thanks to my step dad.)
